New housing on Cromwellsfort Road
Delivering social housing for Dublin

Welcome to Walkinstown

Walkinstown is one of south Dublin’s lesser known suburbs. The area was originally a dairy farm and the first housing estates there were built in the late 1940’s/early 1950’s. More recently, the area has boasted quite a musical connection with many local roads named after singers and composers. In fact, last year, journalist Tanya Sweeney in the Irish Times wrote about the area in a recent article: ‘Make a move to Walkinstown, where estate living hits the right note’ – you can read the full article here: https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/homes-and-property/make-a-move-to-walkinstown-where-estate-living-hits-the-right-note-1.4051413

Local facilities and eateries

The area hosts a well-stocked library, a full-time post office and one of Dublin’s favourite garden centres. Shopping is kept local with a range of newsagents, corner shops and pharmacies. Also, Dunnes, Super Valu, Lidl and Aldi all have stores in the area. For sports enthusiasts, there are three football pitches and two GAA pitches. There are six local pubs including the Kestrel House, Halfway House and the Long Mile Inn.

In addition to the many fast-food, family diner options and a reputable Thai restaurant, the Green Kitchen at number 12 Walkinstown Green is a collection of three cafes and a garden centre. The Farmhouse Cafe And Bakery on the Long Mile Road is another dining favourite.
